Thoughts Are Facts

In January of 2008, Amy and Cris will move moved from a condo in the middle of Austin, Texas (pop. over 680,000) to a farm house in Scottsville, Virginia (pop. under 600). This tumblog is their story.

Verbiage

For the curious, here is the passage Patti read at Warren and Jenn’s wedding:

Warren and Jenn,
Here is something Oscar Wilde said:
“When bankers get together, they talk about art. When artists get together, they talk about money.”
Warren and I have such a symbiotic thing going on. I am the artist who can’t balance a checkbook but I am fascinated by physics, architecture, astronomy: math stuff. Warren is an engineer, a finance guy, and I am flattered when he asks me for advice on cooking, design, or poetry: really abstract stuff. When I cook, I never follow a recipe. When Warren does laundry, I imagine him sticking to the instructions like gospel.
Me and Warren: We both live up in our brains and have acquired differing sets of street smarts along the way. But we lead with our hearts in everything. That is what goes unsaid too often. Perhaps it’s a fault, but it’s also often a thrilling compass.
You’ll never hear me saying it, because we all know it is true. I love my brother and have respect for him that can be measured in hectares. It’s a matter-of-fact love; our whole family. While our friends have circumnavigated the globe, the four of us were never more than a few hours away from one another. Stay inside Texas, that was what we all did. Until recently. Now it’s East-coast mouse and West-coast mouse.
Which brings me to Jennifer. I remember meeting Jennifer for the first time when me and Patti went to cook them both some dinner. I was bowled over.
The best dating advice I ever heard was, “Find someone who smiles a lot.” That’s really good advice. Jennifer smiles and laughs all the time. And she’s bright and hard-working and adorable and strong and even managed to get Warren to have a pet cat. That’s huge.
So, here’s to Jenn: Welcome to our crazy family. I am really, whole-heartedly excited to tell folks about my sister-in-law. I never even imagined it before, but it’s a nice thing to have be real.
And, don’t be afraid to slap Warren around a little and keep him in line. He needs it.
A toast to Warren and Jenn: (by Siddhartha Gautama)
“Live in Joy, In love, Even among those who hate.
Live in joy, In health, Even among the afflicted.
Live in joy, In peace, Even among the troubled.
Look within. Be still. Free from fear and attachment,
Know the sweet joy of living in the blessed life.”    Much love to you both every day hence.

Sudddenly, I am really missing the Magnolia Café garden breakfast tacos. They are potato, spinach, pico de gallo, cheese: all kinds of total delish.

Saw a license plate today that turned too quickly to photograph. It said ” TX MX & ME”. Yes indeed.

Sorry there haven’t been a lot of pictures lately. It gets dark so quickly! I’ll try to get some of the chicks new home and the pen this weekend. Lots of yardwork to do this weekend to get ready for winter (and next spring).

Today I sold 10 of the white chicks. I realized they were going through food way quicker than was affordable. So, I put an add on craigslist and got quite a few responses. I met the coolest people- Anita and Amy. They have a farm up in Nelson county where they raise chickens, turkeys, ducks, pigs, sheep, goats, cows…all sorts of critters. They gave me lots of good advice and offered to let me come and help with their next poultry slaughter. I’ve really been wanting to learn that and need guidance so I’m excited about that. Next year garden and livestock are int he works so you never know.
